My childhood was definitely not all rainbows and unicorns. There was complex trauma, the divorce of my parents, Department of Children and Families involvement, heartbreak, and pain.
Thankfully, I had a powerful outlet that helped me get through those times: the arts. From theater to dance, piano, and being in chorus…
I had a safe space to express myself and felt a sense of community that made me feel less isolated. I could escape in fun and creative ways.
Fast forward to when I went to college, I slowly developed an eating disorder that led me into therapy.
After a few terrible therapists, I found my way to a woman who was the perfect fit.
She showed me how it was safe to feel what I felt. She sat with me every week as I unpacked the most difficult things I’d ever processed, and I started to feel free.
Free to explore who I was without others’ expectations. Free to take my power back. Free to have my experience without other family members telling me what my experience was or was not.
It was truly liberating. And it's the whole reason I became a therapist.
At the time, I wanted to save anyone from having to go through what I went through. And at the very least, to have a space to feel validated. Because I certainly grew up not getting that validation.
I wanted to be able to give others what my therapist had given me- my voice.
Later, I started taking meditation classes, yoga, and attending women’s groups which led me down the more spiritual path. Rediscovering past joys like painting also helped me come out of a dark place where I lost myself.
I now enjoy integrating all of my creative passions and healing techniques into unique, fun, and playful offers and services. And have been filled with joy seeing my clients go deep and play their way to more freedom too.
